Syracuse, N.Y. — October 30, 2026 — Nysernet  is proud to announce the appointment of Joshua Fiske as chief information officer (CIO). With more than 20 years of experience in higher education technology leadership, infrastructure development and strategic planning, Fiske brings a strong technical background and a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing Nysernet’s member institutions.

Fiske joins Nysernet from Clarkson University, where he served as vice president for information technology and libraries. During his tenure, he led university-wide technology initiatives, including the development of a sustainable data center, expansion of research computing capabilities and modernization of critical IT infrastructure. His experience also includes enterprise risk management, organizational leadership and the development of long-term technology strategies that balance innovation with institutional resources.

In his new role, Fiske will help guide Nysernet’s technology strategy and operations, supporting the organization's commitment to delivering reliable, secure and forward-looking solutions for its members.

“Josh brings a valuable combination of technical expertise, strategic leadership and a deep understanding of the organizations we serve,” said Jeanne Casares, president and CEO of Nysernet. “Having spent his career navigating the challenges of higher education IT, he understands firsthand how important reliable infrastructure, responsible investment and trusted partnerships are to institutional success. His longstanding connection to Nysernet and commitment to collaboration make him a natural fit for our leadership team as we continue building for the future.”

Fiske's relationship with Nysernet spans nearly two decades, including service on its board of directors since 2019. As a technology leader at a member institution, he has experienced the value of Nysernet's services and collaborative community firsthand. During his time  at Clarkson, he helped reconnect the university to Nysernet's research and education networking infrastructure, restoring access to national research networks and supporting more cost-effective connectivity.

“Having worked in higher education IT for more than 20 years, I've seen how much institutions can accomplish when they have the right technology and the right people behind them,” said Fiske. “What has always stood out to me about Nysernet is its community. Our members face many of the same challenges, regardless of their size, and there's tremendous value in sharing ideas and finding solutions together. I'm excited to bring my experience to this role and work alongside the Nysernet team and our members to build on that foundation.”

Throughout his career, Fiske has emphasized practical, cost-effective technology solutions and collaboration across institutions. At Clarkson, he directed the development of a high-performance computing cluster supported by a National Science Foundation grant, led the creation of an enterprise risk management program and oversaw technology operations supporting research, teaching and learning.

Fiske holds a master's degree in information technology and a bachelor's degree in mathematics, both from Clarkson University.
