University of Rochester says key to longevity is in a gene

Researchers at the University of Rochester have uncovered new answers to a highly-debated question: what is the key to longevity? They believe it may actually reside in a gene. The team discovered recently that the gene sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) creates more efficient DNA repairs in species with longer lifespans. They believe this has implications for anti-aging interventions and could possibly help to prevent age-related diseases such as cancer.

The University of Rochester is a member of NYSERNet’s R&E network. Read more about the findings here: https://www.rochester.edu/newscenter/longevity-gene-responsible-for-more-efficient-dna-repair-375752/
