Cornell study identifies most dangerous cities for migrating birds

A research team from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has offered an explanation for the 600 million birds that die from building collisions in the United States every year. The crashes typically result from a combination of light pollution and geography, which causes the birds to become attracted to light and disoriented. They have also researched and ranked the cities where birds are at the highest risk for crashing into buildings The three large cities on the top of the list, regardless of the season, are Chicago, Houston and Dallas.

Cornell University is a member of NYSERNet’s R&E network. Read more about the study here: http://news.cornell.edu/stories/2019/04/chicago-tops-list-most-dangerous-cities-migrating-birds
