The Rockefeller University study explains how geckos move on water

A Rockefeller fellow in physics and biology recently completed a study which explores how geckos can scurry across the water’s surface at impressive speeds. The study highlights a combination of techniques that geckos use to accomplish this feat. By recording and quantifying the animals’ movement, the researchers revealed that geckos use a slapping motion to hoist their bodies above water and are aided by its surface tension and a unique feature of their skin that repels water.

The Rockefeller University is connected to NYSERNet’s R&E network.
