NYSERNet Names Chief Information Security Officer

Newly established role furthers NYSERNet’s development of security services

 

Syracuse, N.Y., January 18, 2024 — NYSERNet is pleased to announce that Emilyann Fogarty has been named the organization’s Chief Information Security Officer. In this newly created executive position, Fogarty is responsible for leading NYSERNet’s development of new security services and maintaining the organization’s vision, strategy and program to ensure its information assets and technologies are adequately protected.

“Creating this new position of Chief Information Security Officer was a strategic decision on the part of NYSERNet to provide important cybersecurity services to meet the needs of our members.” says President and CEO Jeanne Casares. “We are thrilled to welcome Emilyann as part of our team and leverage her vast knowledge in the area of cybersecurity to bring new ideas, innovation and strategies that will not only serve NYSERNet’s best interests in this critical area but its members and partners, as well.”

Fogarty is a leader in cybersecurity and has extensive experience building, maturing and overseeing a diverse range of security programs, including those in healthcare, manufacturing, managed services and Software as a Service (SaaS). In her new role, she will work closely with the NYSERNet team to develop cybersecurity goals that reflect members’ needs with effective return on investment to meet financial goals, identify cybersecurity product and service needs and requirements; and advise on current security industry requirements, frameworks, compliance, products and services. In addition, Fogarty will collaborate with other information security industry partners to best serve NYSERNet and its members.

Her past experience includes working as Senior Project Manager/Cybersecurity Program Manager at Carestream Health, Director of Information Security at Datto, Inc. and most recently, Head of Data Security and IT at Nayya Health. Fogarty has an MBA from the William E. Simon School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester and is certified in PMP and CISSP. In 2022, she received the Global InfoSec Award: Top Women in Cybersecurity.

In addition to her accomplishments in information security, Fogarty is dedicated to the advancement of female leaders and their careers, having been a participant in corporate Women in Technology (WIT) Employee Resource Groups (ERG) and contributing to fostering inclusivity and gender diversity through the tech industry.
