Stony Brook University has been awarded $1 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy. This funding will be used to develop a Synchronized Low-Energy Electronically-Chopped Passive-InfraRed Sensor for Occupancy Detection, or SLEEPIR, which uses high accuracy to detect human presence within homes. This project is headed by Professor Ya Wang, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Nanomaterial Sensing and Energy Harvesting Laboratory. Stony Brook University takes advantage of NYSERNet’s R&E Network.
