NYSERNet is an advanced research network that prioritizes enhancing the research and educational opportunities of its network, in turn, NYSERNet does not offer commercial Internet services (CIS) through its backbone network. To assist its members with their CIS needs, NYSERNet participates in a national commercial Internet service program managed by The Quilt – a consortium of regional network providers like NYSERNet, who collaborate to deliver cost-effective, high-performance network services to the research and education community.
Every three years, The Quilt invites vendors to offer discounts based on the cumulative Quilt bandwidth purchase, which currently exceeds 2 Tb, and is dedicated to advancing the technologies utilized in their networks. The Quilt negotiates pricing and terms and passes on the savings to NYSERNet and its members.
In the 2023 – 2026 cycle, the selected vendors are 365 Data Centers, Arelion, Cogent, GTT, Lumen and Zayo.
To take part in this program, your institution must be a dues-paying member of NYSERNet. Many times, the savings can make membership worthwhile. If you would like to know more about this program and the advantages it provides, please send a note to membership@nysernet.org.
