Scientists from University at Buffalo have developed a new technique that will make treating lung diseases easier. By putting thin pieces of lung tissue grown in labs onto chip arrays, the researchers are able to more accurately imitate the way disease causes lungs to scar over time. This new process creates a significant decrease in the amount of time and money needed to test how treatments interact with damaged lung tissue. These findings will likely result in an influx of medicines for the different types of lung fibrosis.

University at Buffalo is connected to NYSERNet’s R&E network.
