Researchers design more effective treatment for ODD - NYSERNet

Researchers have designed a new therapy treatment that offers relief for children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, a disorder that increases the risk for antisocial personality disorder in adults. A professor from Yeshiva, in collaboration with doctors from the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Mount Sinai St. Luke, succeeded in their goal of better understanding and caring for kids with ODD and similar disorders.

Previously, the most common treatment for ODD was to train parents to reinforce positive behaviors and eliminate negative ones, with very little focus on the child. The new approach helps parents and children understand how and why the negative behaviors developed, and how to improve their futures.

The team of researchers were able to collaborate on the new treatment using NYSERNet’s R&E network.
