Researchers at RIT and a postdoctoral fellow from Syracuse University now working in Germany have helped detect gravitational waves for a third time, further confirming Einstein’s theory of relativity and his prediction that the waves move at the speed of light. Working as part of the LIGO scientific collaboration, their findings helped detect the furthest recorded binary black hole merger, an event that took place more than 2.8 billion light-years from Earth. The researchers used NYSERNet’s R&E network to collaborate and share data.
