According to new findings from the Rockefeller University and the Icahn School and Medicine at Mt. Sinai, gut bacteria and human cells essentially speak the same ‘chemical language.’ Using molecules called ligands, researchers have developed a method to genetically engineer the bacteria to produce molecules that could potentially treat certain disorders by altering the human metabolism. These new discoveries are the first step to future improvements in disease treatment. This effort will make use of NYSERNet’s R&E network.
