The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism set out to examine the concept of engagement in journalism through a four-month research project. The research focuses on various organizations and their methods of “engagement” — or how they connect with their communities and create collaborative spaces for their audiences. The researchers sought evidence to support ideas about what constitutes successful journalistic practices. They found that engaged journalism increases audience trust in journalists, increases financial support for journalism, and results in greater civic engagement within communities.
