An architect at Cornell University is working with University of Pennsylvania scientists to develop new forms of adaptive architecture that behave more like natural structures and respond to their environments. Unlike buildings that might use moving mechanical panels to allow in light, the researchers say their eSkin material will be able to react to heat, light and other environmental factors to make a wall less opaque or change the color of a facade. Their joint biology and architecture lab uses NYSERNet’s R&E network to exchange data.
