Critically ill children commonly experience delirium in ICUs - NYSERNet

An international study led by researchers from Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian has found that 25 percent of children admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) for critical illness are likely to suffer from delirium. The number jumps to 38 percent after six days of hospitalization, in part due to physical restraints, medications, immobility and sleep deprivation. The researchers studied ICUs in the  United States, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and Saudi Arabia, and were able to collaborate by using NYSERNet’s R&E network.
