NYU scientists have designed a device that can find flaws and diagnose problems in batteries by scanning them. By using their creation, the researchers were able to discover why batteries weren’t working without having to completely dismantle them. Their findings will mean that rechargeable batteries like the ones in cell phones can be checked for safety and battery lifetime at a faster pace, as well as a cheaper price.
The NYU scientists collaborated with researchers at RIT to test a range of batteries, sharing data using NYSERNet’s R&E network.
