New findings on effects of screen time on sleep

A recent study by Stony Brook University scientists is suggesting that extended screen time is correlated to symptoms of insomnia and depression in adolescents. According to the study’s findings,  more time spent on the internet, playing games, and texting led to the adolescents sleeping for much shorter amounts of time. The researchers believe that education on the adverse effects of screen time could lead to adolescents having less trouble with sleep loss and other depressive symptoms.

The scientists used NYSERNet’s R&E network to exchange data with collaborators from other institutions.
