A team of researchers led by scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine discovered that chemotherapy is connected to an increased risk of breast cancer cells metastasizing. The researchers found that mice that underwent chemotherapy had a higher amount of TMEM sites, places where cancer cells can enter blood vessels. The researchers found similarities with human breast cancer patients, who had undergone chemotherapy. Using NYSERNet’s R&E network, the scientists were able to share data and observations between institutions.
