Researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cornell University are answering a need to grow more, higher-quality produce using less energy. They lead a team of researchers with the goal of reducing greenhouse energy usage by 70 percent. Their plan is to demonstrate a new form of greenhouse management in which LED lighting, carbon dioxide supplementation, ventilation and humidity are controlled by a single system. This system will react to the amount of ambient light throughout the day and other kinds of power saving technology to bring down the amount of energy used.
The researchers were able to exchange data using NYSERNet’s R&E network.
