A team of researchers led by NYU discovered a new, better form of a powerful — but highly damaging — pesticide. The new crystal form of DDT is more effective against insects, and can be used as a solid, allowing the chemical to be used in much smaller amounts. The reduced risk to human health and the environment resulting from the new form of DDT suggest that scientists will be able to create increasingly safer pesticides in the future.
The researchers were able to exchange data with scientists outside of NYU using NYSERNet’s R&E network.
